Postdoctoral or Postgraduate Research Associate

Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff (payable 14
times per year): with doctorate: B1 lit. b, € 3.945,90 / without doctorate: B1, € 2.971,50
Responsibilities
Participation in the infrastructure and research project BOKU Phenomics at the University of
Natural Resources and Life Sciences with a focus on the BOKU location in Tulln (Lower
Austria), as well as in Vienna and Groß-Enzersdorf
Participation in the optimization of the use of imaging and other (e.g. remote sensing)
methods, in particular by means of a UAV for high-throughput and high-resolution recordings
of agricultural experiments
Imaging of field experiments using an UAV with camera systems, especially high-resolution
RGB and multispectral imaging at different locations
Development of the entire evaluation pipeline of digital phenotyping data (e.g. RGB,
multispectral) from extensive field experiments with several 100 or 1000 field plots for the
derivation and validation of digital crop traits, such as the degree of infestation with diseases,
soil cover, biomass, water balance, stress traits, etc
Development and optimization of user-friendly evaluation tools for scientific research
Participation in the publication of the results in high-ranking scientific journals and at scientific
events
Required skills and qualifications
Doctoral degree/PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent
Diploma degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or other equivalent university degree
Interest/experience in the digital evaluation of measurement data, including high-resolution
RGB images, multispectral data, etc.
Excellent computer- and programming skills
Interest in agriculture, biology, genetics, crop physiology
Communication skills, team spirit, flexibility, scientific curiosity
Driving license B, drone pilot license (if not available then it must be obtained within three
months)
Desirable skills and qualifications
Experience with biological, medical or agricultural experiments / data
Technological affinity and experience in working with drones, cameras or remote sensing
Experience with third party funding/entrepreneurial interest
Experience with scientific networks
